Blue

We are new pet parents. You know how that can be.  "Sit here while I show you 150 pics of our new kitten!" Smiley face, smiley face, smiley face.

I am not going to lie...make no mistake...THIS ^^^ is us.

This week's theme is Blue.  I thought it might be time for little miss whiskers to get back over to the studio.  She was there when she was four weeks old, as she and her three siblings came for photos to be used to try and secure them a great home.  Well, the hazards of being a pet photographer sometimes involve falling in love with the subject...which I did.

So I took Luna over to the studio this past week and let her ramble and play wherever she liked.  Luckily, she landed on this blue striped chair.

I was quietly following her around with my camera to take advantage of anything I could, so I was lucky to grab this photo.  She still moved a bit in it, but I love her curious expression.  She is by far, the biggest adventurer we have had in a long time.

Next I threw a blue cloth backdrop on my stand and set up one light off to the side and a bit behind her.  I did not want to overwhelm her on her first studio experience, but I did also set up a small reflector at an angle below her.  She played with the backdrop, so I ended up throwing a pair of blue bunny ears on the bench to catch her attention.  True to form, Luna jumped up to examine them and then looked at the soft box calculating whether or not she could climb it.  That's when I captured this photo. (P.S. Luna climbs everything that is climbable.)

She had actually started to do her little kitty frizz up at the light when I took this photo, and as soon as it flashed she was gone.  "What the heck is this?" she was heard to meow as she ran under a chest of drawers.

I put on some music and let her stew under the chest for a bit.  I wadded up a piece of paper and threw it across the floor and Luna pounced on it immediately and forgot about the light incident.

My next thought was to use some type of container, so I emptied one of my Thirty One storage containers that I use in the studio, which is more of a teal blue, and placed that sideways on the bench.  Sure enough, less than a minute later, Luna was checking it out.  So my third and final photo is below.

This time she did not even flinch when my flash went off.  She was studying the reflector, wondering if trampoline status could be applied.  She did eventually go into the Thirty One container and sit there for a fraction of a second.  Kittens have very short attention spans.

I am sure by the end of the month I will have over 150 photos.  Everyone will just have to put up with me while I show off this little girl, the newest addition to our pet family.

Ah, yes, the "OMG! I need a picture of that!" stage of pets and children." It's great years later looking back at them. Kittens don't seem to be quite the "ball of fluff" that puppies seem to be, but they have their own cute factor.

Love kitty. My cat is named Luna too because she was found during a full moon - and because she's a bit of a Luna-tic! Nice job! Enjoyed these very much.

Aw, a new kitty - she looks so young and innocent - your photos of her are fantastic! I'm hopeful you will share photos as she grows up.
