Project 52 - Week 14: Consider Your Color Palette

There are many alternate titles I could have used for this week's blog. Blah Color Palettes, When Rain Is The Only Color You Have, Pennsylvania Weather Plays Havoc With Color Palettes, What Is That Green Stuff Marauding As Grass?...but I digress.

This is the time of year I wish I could slip into the cupboard and come out into a land where there were flowers and many hours of sunshine.  I looked at the fascinating photos in our text for this week's theme and thought "ain't no way that's happening here."

I studied Dave Delnea's images. I drooled over Erik Almas' work.  I spent an hour with Brooke Shaden's creations.
All highly recommended by our author, I came to the following conclusion:  I. NEED. TO. MOVE.

I have no beach, no flower petals billowing out of the ears of my dogs, heck, I don't even have nice weather!  But I do have a common theme, and even an element that ties my photos together...that age old swing glider whose patina is a mixture of blue/green moss and old wood (courtesy of Mother Nature).  One might call this Color Palette:  Photos You Can Put Up On Your Bulletin Board With A Tack!

I have the photos in larger format for you to review below.

Above - Lilah, wondering if moving means leaving some of her brothers and sisters behind, because we all know it means more treats and toys for her.

Moe, whose look says "if-there-isn't-a-treat-at-the-end-of-this-I-am-never-looking-at-you-again."  There was. And, finally, Bethy--the dog that will do anything for me, anytime, even if my color palette is less than stellar.

Some thoughts.  I took all of the images on the same day at the same time so the lighting would be similar.  I processed them one right after the other when editing, and edited them all the same way.  I made sure one element (the glider swing) tied them all together.  I also work this way when I am doing project photo sessions.  I decide on a common theme and palette, collect all of my images (even if that occurs over several days, weeks or months) and edit them all at the same time.

I am sure you are going to find more exciting palettes ahead in the blog circle, so head right through this cupboard into the land of Pet Love Photography, serving Greater Cincinnati and the San Francisco Bay area, to see what Susannah Maynard has in store for us. Enjoy!

I love love love your glider swing in your photos. The color of it just makes me melt. Seriously, I am in love. However I had to laugh when you said you need to move. I used to live in BEAUTIFUL southern CA and I'd move back today if I could. (I'm in NC now.) NC is nice but it IS NOT southern CA. I dream of moving back to CA every day. Every. Single. Day. And I wasn't into photography when I lived there which is such a shame!

I just love your posts. I live in the windy land of oz right now. Our photography seasons of Spring and Fall last maybe 2 weeks each and that's it, so I feel you, girl. :O)
