Project 52 - Week 30: Bath Time

In the summertime, there is nothing like a bath on the lawn.  Don't you think that is what Danny is thinking in this photo?  Me neither.  I'm sure he is wondering why I am just standing there with a camera while he is getting soaking wet.

While I don't think bathing is his favorite thing to do in all the world, he is very good about it.  We use a short beach chair and an old collar that is leashed to the chair.  Our dogs know that when the chair comes out, it's bath time.  Of course, in the winter we use either a groomer or a bathtub.  But on a hot summer day, the lawn is a great place to get wet.

There are specific dog towels in our house.  The science of dog washing dictates you have a number of plush, fluffy towels ready.  Some of our dogs dance around in the towels when they are getting dried off.  I like to think it's a happy dance, the "oh, I am clean" dance.  Danny likes being toweled off.

The science also says that you will have dog hair all over you when you wash a dog.  And maybe even some drool.

It amazes me how well Danny has adapted to bath time.  When he first came to us he was so fearful he would not even allow us to touch him in the yard.  He still has moments where he prefers to lay quite a distance from us when outside, but more often than not, he is right with us now.

When bath time is over, Danny shares a moment with Dad.  It's okay that you gave me a bath, Dad.  All is forgiven. We are still buddies.

I give Izzy baths outdoors in the summer too. I'm not sure who is more wet by the time we're done, her or me! Great images! Love the last one. Sounds like Danny has come a long way, must be so rewarding to see his progress!

He really has come so very far, Trina. He has always been a kind and good dog, just very afraid of past ghosts.

Mr. Bojangles doesn't care too much for bath time, but he puts up with it like a trooper. Looks like Danny is just the same.
