Project 52 - Week 40: Orange

10/6/2017

It's an orange kind of month.  October.  Leaves are changing, pine needles have fallen off the trees and have all turned bright orange on the ground.  We released the last of our very orange monarch butterflies to head south.  I see pumpkins everywhere (and who can forget PUMPKIN SPICE EVERYTHING? Huh?....) and Halloween is right around the corner.

So there was no shortage of orange to choose from for the week's theme.

I chose a tortie/calico-esque cat I met on a back road walking through those orangey pine needles, and still vaguely orange fallen leaves  I mentioned above.  A very friendly kitty.

This kitty has SKILLZ!  She acted out the scene with the non-existent pumpkin like a CGI pro, card-carrying member of the screen actors guild.  (I have no idea what she was looking at, but it wasn't a pumpkin and it wasn't me, so I improvised.)

The whole scene has been "washed" with a slight orange paint tint, except for the kitty.  Those are her true colors.  She was wearing a collar, so there was no need to bring her home with me and set about finding her owner. There were houses very close by, and I remember seeing her once on a porch rail.

My second thought along the orange theme lines went immediately to orange belton English Setters.  We own one.  Lilah is an orange belton Setter.  Lord knows you've seen countless images of her.  Rather than foist another one on you, I retooled a head shot of a Setter taken a bit ago.  The orangey ear caught my eye when I was going through photos the other day.

Before Lilah, I was not as enthralled by orange belton setters. The blue beltons were my favorite.  I have to admit that Lilah has changed all that for me, and I find orange belton setters to be beautiful examples of the breed.

Have a great weekend, and look for all things orange, especially those little woolley bear caterpillars, who need to have an ORANGE STRIPE in order for our winter to be mild.  If you don't see a stripe, paint one on please!

Lilah is just lovely! Beautiful definitely fits her.

I also got a chuckle out of your caterpillar comment. I saw two on a trail walk the other day--with a stripe--so fingers crossed Pennsylvania doesn't get slammed this winter.
