In what has probably been the busiest season for me in 2021, I took some time to sit and reflect amid the props and studio trappings that are about to be put away for another year.
I am sitting in front of the fourth backdrop to be hung in the past 30 days, and since this photo, I hung two more. But even with all the hard work of studio setups, greeting card design, monitoring orders, postal set backs and delivering products to clients, Christmas seems to pump additional creative energy into every vein.
I really DO believe Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, and here's why.
We Reconnect
During the year we all seem to go our separate ways, wrapped up in life, in general. But as the year comes to a close and the holiday season arrives, we are brought together in gift-giving, Christmas card-sending, and seasonal activities that we all enjoy (think sledding, skiing, hot cocoa by an outdoor fire).
I love to help families reconnect. Often they will get together to have family portraits during the holiday season. It's a joyous time for me, as I see them interact and value the memories they are making.
This year is an especially memory-valuing time, as we can finally get together once again. We all know what Christmas 2020 was like.

Traditions, Christmas trees, home decorations, the gifts we seek to give others (especially those who say they "have everything") are something true to who we are in our own celebrations.

We Finally Get It All Together
When you finally sit down on Christmas morning, and survey what you have done through the year and in your preparations for the holiday, you hopefully have a feeling of gratitude and peace. However you celebrate, and whatever holiday you observe, the season should bring you "tidings of comfort and joy."
I would not have been able to experience my gratitude and peace, had I not taken on the project of FINALLY getting all of our current dogs together for a Christmas portrait. It is one I will always cherish, because, within a week of doing the studio portrait work, we lost one of our dogs. Our dog, Moe, who was almost 16 years old, left us.
In fact, the day before I did his portrait, he gave some signs of leaving, but rallied back for 10 additional days with us, and it was during that rally, that I was able to capture his portrait.
So with my final Christmas greeting in today's blog, I want to remind you: DON'T PUT OFF WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO KEEP THE MEMORIES ALIVE! Just don't. And if you need me to help you, I am here.
